Team Roster & Equipment Info
ROSTERS
- The Roster (co-ed) will be made up of a minimum of 9 players (including goalie) and maximum of 19 players (including goalie). If a Team chooses to register more than the allowable 19 Players, there will be an additional onetime fee of fifteen dollars ($15) for each additional Player, payable at time of registration, to cover the extra insurance premium and administrative costs.
- Each Team is permitted to dress a maximum of 16 Players (including Goaltenders) for any game.
- A team can play a game without a goalie but they will be fined and there will be a 6 goal mercy rule at which point the game will be called.
- Rosters will be frozen on June 1 and random ID checks will be performed to ensure teams arent playing with ineligible and unregistered players.
- All Players participating in a League game must be 18 years of age or older. Any Player under the age of 18 must acquire the League Manager’s approval and sign an underage waiver along with written parental consent prior to participation in any League game.
JERSEYS AND EQUIPMENT
- All players will require matching jerseys with unique numbers on the back (we can provide information for jerseys if needed)
- In the event of a conflict of team colours, the visiting team will have to wear alternate jerseys
- The following gear is mandatory: CSA approved helmet, shin and elbow pads, protective cup, hockey pants (ice or rollerhockey) and gloves Equipment Tips
- If a goaltender chooses to use a non-CSA approved cage, the player will waive the league responsiblity for any injury incurred.
- Face shields or visors are strongly recommended for all divisions of play. In order to qualify for facial injury or dental reimbursement under the League’s national sport accident insurance policy, Players will be required to wear a CSA approved full face shield OR a CSA approved half visor AND mouth guard combination. Players who do not meet these facial protection requirements will forfeit their right to reimbursement for any facial injury or loss (including dental).
- Goaltenders are encouraged to wear a CSA approved neck guard in all league games.
- Mouth guards are strongly recommended for all players
- If a player loses a piece of equipment, they must put it on immediately or return to the bench before making a play. If they don’t they will receive a minor penalty for illegal equipment.
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
- Only players registered with the league may participate
- It is the responsibility of the Team Representative to ensure that the game roster sheet is accurately filled out (including crossing off players not in attendance and making any necessary changes to jersey numbers) and that all players are eligible for participation in the game.
- Players arriving before the start of the second half of regulation time will be permitted to participate as long as they are dressed and ready to play and have been checked off on the official game roster prior to the start of the second half. Players who enter a game without getting checked off on the game roster will be considered to be an ineligible player.
- Additionally, all Players must carry government-issued photo identification (ID) in the facility on their person and be prepared to produce it if asked by a referee or league official. Checks for ID may be randomly conducted or opposing teams may call for an ID check and failure to produce ID will result in that player being considered an ineligible player.
- Playing with an ineligible player during regular season will result in a 5 minute major penalty and a game misconduct and corresponding fine (goals and assists by this player will also be removed) . Playing with an ineligible player during playoffs will result in a forfeit of the game and corresponding fine.
PLAYOFF ELIGIBILITY
- Skaters must play a minimum of 6 regular season games for a team to qualify for the playoffs (33 percent of the games). In addition, skaters playing in 2 different tiers, must play at least 3 out of their first 8 games on the lower tiered team to qualify for the playoffs.
- Players that are injured can remove any games from the calculation during the period of time of their injury. Then they will just need to meet the same 33 percent requirement as per above. A doctors note is required, stating the period of time that the player was injured.
- Goalies must play a minimum of 1 regular season game as a goalie for a team to qualify for the playoffs.
- Players that are added to the roster in the last couple weeks of May (just prior to the roster freeze) will need to play 2 out of the next 4 games in June to qualify for playoffs.
- Players that have previously dominated a tier may not be allowed to play or may be restricted.
TIERING
- League Management reserves the right to move a Team (or Player) to
a higher or lower division based on:
a) Overall and / or individual Player skill level
b) Win / loss record
c) Any other statistical data
Tiering Rules for Players on Multiple Teams
- Identify the players on your team that are also playing on other teams.
- From the previous regular season, determine the highest tier in which more than 4 games were played
- Determine the skill level of the player (see below)
- Import points will be calculated based on difference between the teams current tier and skill levels of the players identified in the previous step. Therefore, import points will only be calculated when the players skill level is higher than the teams.
- Each tier higher will count as 1 import point for skaters and 1/2 point for goalies. Each team has a maximum of 3 import points.
- Platinum/Gold, Silver I/Silver II, Bronze I/Bronze II, Brass I/Brass II etc will each count as 1/2 tiers/points for the purposes of this tiering rule.
- Any skater playing down to a lower tier must play 3 out of the first 8 games in that lower tier in order to be eligible for the playoffs.
- A player can play goalie in one tier and skater in another with no import consequences.
- If a higher tiered player has a history (2 consecutive years) of being on a lower tiered team and the PPG in that lower tier is within the proper range, that player will just count as 1 import point for that team (even if it would be more).
- Platinum level players can not play lower than Silver I, Gold level players can not play lower than Silver II, Silver level players can not play lower than copper
- New skaters with no prior history in the league will count as a 1/2 point for each tier their teams are apart up (unless stats can be obtained to help determine a player’s actual skill level).
- Players can play on 2 teams in the same tier, but they will need to choose a primary team for the playoffs. If their primary team gets eliminated from the playoffs, then they can join their secondary team if that team is still playing.
- A team can automatically stay in the same tier as prior year if they did not change the roster.
- Captains of lower tiered teams should be aware that having better skaters register and play on lower tiered teams, may mean that your team can get moved up to a higher tier.
EXAMPLE
I want to play on 2 teams this year. One team is in Copper and the other is in Iron II. In the previous year, I played 6 games for a team in Copper and my PPG was 0.70 and I played 10 games on another team in Nickel I and my PPG was 0.80. I would check the chart below for the highest tier that I played more than 4 games (which would be copper) and would determine that my PPG is below the limit for that current tier and is determined to be “the next tier lower”. Therefore, my skill level is determined to be Brass. Now I need to assess my import implications for the current year. There are no import consequences for my copper team since my skill level is lower. However, I will count as 2 import points for my Iron II team as my skill level is 2 tiers higher. My Iron II team would be limited to having one more Nickel skill level player (which would be one more point since that would be 3 points total) or they would have the option of starting off in Nickel and freeing up some points. The exception to this would be if we had already tiered the team in prior year and the makeup of the team hasn’t changed, in which case, we could leave the team in the same tier that they finished in the previous season.
Determining a skater’s skill level
A skater’s skill level will be determined based on the Points per game (PPG) from the previous regular season. A range (table below) has been determined for each tier using the formula that for each tier: the top 10% will be considered to be of the skill level of the next whole tier higher, the middle 55% will be considered to be of the skill level of that tier, the next 20% will be considered to be of the skill level of the next whole tier lower and the bottom 15% will be considered to have NO import impact . Therefore, the PPG range indicated is the lower limit when considering the skill level of that tier.
| Tier | Next tier lower | Current tier | Next tier higher |
| Platinum | 1.30 | 1.90 | 3.50 |
| Gold | 0.60 | 1.10 | 4.30 |
| Silver I | 0.95 | 1.45 | 3.40 |
| Silver II | 0.95 | 1.32 | 3.40 |
| Bronze I | 0.75 | 1.24 | 3.20 |
| Bronze II | 0.58 | 0.95 | 2.60 |
| Copper | 0.52 | 0.95 | 2.75 |
| Brass | 0.48 | 0.79 | 2.34 |
| Nickel I | 0.45 | 0.79 | 2.40 |
| Nickel II | 0.48 | 0.66 | 1.90 |
| Iron I | 0.44 | 0.76 | 2.40 |
| Iron II | 0.42 | 0.68 | 2.45 |
| Chrome I | 0.45 | 0.70 | 2.20 |
| Chrome II | 0.32 | 0.61 | 1.90 |
| Zinc I | 0.32 | 0.45 | 1.45 |
| Zinc II | 0.32 | 0.58 | 1.88 |
Determining a Goalie’s skill level
A goalie’s skill level will be determined based on the Save Percentage (SV%) from the previous regular season. A range (table below) has been determined for each tier using the formula that for each tier: the top 20% will be considered to be of the skill level of the next whole tier higher, the middle 50% will be considered to be of the skill level of that tier, and the bottom 30% will be considered to be of the skill level of the next whole tier lower. Therefore, the SV% range indicated is the lower and upper limit to be considered the skill level of that tier.
| Tier | Bottom of Range | Top of Range |
| Platinum | 0.760 | 0.860 |
| Gold | 0.760 | 0.810 |
| Silver I | 0.767 | 0.815 |
| Silver II | 0.725 | 0.830 |
| Bronze I | 0.749 | 0.850 |
| Bronze II | 0.790 | 0.875 |
| Copper | 0.770 | 0.824 |
| Brass | 0.790 | 0.850 |
| Nickel I | 0.770 | 0.895 |
| Nickel II | 0.800 | 0.870 |
| Iron I | 0.810 | 0.865 |
| Iron II | 0.780 | 0.840 |
| Chrome I | 0.780 | 0.880 |
| Chrome II | 0.818 | 0.871 |
| Zinc I | 0.780 | 0.870 |
| Zinc II | 0.730 | 0.843 |
